Healthy Food

Food is much more than fuel. It is culture, family, memory, and celebration.

What it is

Food is much more than fuel. It is culture, family, memory, and celebration. In Puerto Rico, a plate of rice and beans, a sweet ripe plantain, or a bowl of chicken soup can instantly remind you of your grandmother's kitchen, a holiday with cousins, or a rainy afternoon at home. At the same time, food is also one of the most powerful tools we have for taking care of our health. What we eat every day affects our energy, our mood, our sleep, our skin, and even our ability to think clearly and fight illness. Learning to eat well does not mean giving up the foods you love. It means understanding what your body needs, making balanced choices most of the time, and enjoying food without guilt. A healthy plate is usually a colorful plate. Let's talk — 10 questions to discuss with your voice tutor: 1. What does a typical breakfast, lunch, and dinner look like for you on a normal day? 2. Which Caribbean fruits and vegetables do you eat most often, and how do you like to prepare them? 3. Do you think it is easy or difficult to eat a balanced diet in Puerto Rico? Why? 4. What is one small change to your eating habits that you could realistically start this week? 5. How do you feel after eating a very heavy or sugary meal compared to a light, balanced meal? 6. Do you read food labels at the supermarket? What information do you look for first? 7. What healthy foods did you dislike as a child but enjoy now as an adult? 8. How important is sharing meals with family or friends in your culture and in your own life? 9. What is your opinion about diets that completely forbid certain foods? 10. If you could teach a teenager one lesson about food and health, what would it be? 📖 La lectura completa llegará en una actualización (la plataforma ahora limita el texto por lección).
