My Neighborhood
A neighborhood is much more than a group of streets and houses on a map. It is the place where we live our daily lives, where we greet familiar faces, where we buy our bread, walk our dogs, hear the music and the traffic, and feel — or do not feel — at home.

A neighborhood is much more than a group of streets and houses on a map. It is the place where we live our daily lives, where we greet familiar faces, where we buy our bread, walk our dogs, hear the music and the traffic, and feel — or do not feel — at home. I have lived in my neighborhood in San Juan for several years now, and even though it is not perfect, I know its corners, its rhythms, and its people, and that knowledge gives me a deep sense of belonging. My neighborhood is a residential area with a mix of houses and small apartment buildings. The streets are lined with trees: flamboyán trees with their spectacular red-orange flowers in summer, mango trees that drop fruit on the sidewalk in season, and tall palm trees that move gently in the breeze. Most houses have small front gardens, balconies, and fences or gates, which is very common in Puerto Rico. In the mornings, the neighborhood wakes up gradually. First you hear the birds and the occasional rooster, then the sound of cars starting, gates opening, and neighbors calling "¡Buenos días!" to each other as they leave for work and school. Let's talk — 10 questions to discuss with your voice tutor: 1. Can you describe your neighborhood to someone who has never visited it? 2. What places are within walking distance of your home? 3. Who are your neighbors? Do you know them well? 4. Is there a park in your neighborhood? What do people do there? 5. What do you like most about your neighborhood? 6. What problems or things would you like to change in your neighborhood? 7. How do neighbors help each other in your community? 8. How does your neighborhood change during holidays like Christmas? 9. Do you feel safe in your neighborhood? Why or why not? 10. If you could move to any other neighborhood or city, would you? Why? 📖 La lectura completa llegará en una actualización (la plataforma ahora limita el texto por lección).
